denture care

  • When cleaning your dentures, always fill the sink with water and place a towel or mat at the botoom to prevent breakage in case they're dropped.

  • Always rinse your new denture after meals, and brush them daily using a soft toothbrush and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly with water before placing them back in your mouth.

  • Do not use regular toothpaste, as it is abrasive and can wear down you dentures prematurely.

  • We recommend using only denture-specific paste for cleaning.

  • After cleaning, gently dry your denture or flick them dry, then store them in your denture container. Dentures do not need to be soaked in water. Bacteria thrive in water, especially when it is stagnant.

  • To complement your daily cleaning routine we highly recommend Caldent (once-a-week denture cleaner). Caldent is an Australian product designed by a prosthetist to be gentle on dentures and is very cost-effective. One box can last up to 4 months when used as directed. Caldent is avaliable at Discount Chemist Warehouse or in our clinic

Your dentures should fit well and help maintain a healthy oral environment. If they cause any sore spots or ulcers, remove them immediately and do not continue wearing them. Contact the clinic to have them adjusted.

Never wear ill-fitting dentures, as this can lead to additional issues. Avoid wearing them again until they've been professionally adjusted or the sore area has healed.

For sore spots or ulcers, mix 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and rinse twice daily for 2-3 days. This is often an effective remedy.
